One of the biggest mistakes beginners make is they try and play a song they have heard many times in the past before trying to listen to it with a musical ear. Before you try and play any song, no matter how simple, you will want to take the time to listen to the song at least two to three times before you try and play it on your own. Once you feel like you have the song memorized, you can try and start playing the song on your own, but make sure to start out slowly. The best approach is to try singing and playing stanza by stanza until you feel comfortable enough that you can successfully play the whole song from start to finish. Just remember to take your time and don’t get frustrated if you make mistakes. They are just a necessary evil on the road to guitar playing success.

Third, many beginners assume they will be playing the guitar perfectly in a short amount of time. Lastly, remember that you cannot force yourself to learn to play the guitar. Whether you had missed out on a few practice sessions during the week, or you are frustrated that you just can’t hit a specific note in your song, forcing yourself to practice can make things worse instead of better. If you are tired, it’s best to go rest instead of trying to perfect a skill when you are already exhausted. Remember that learning how to play the guitar is a skill that is never ending. Even as your skills grow beyond the learning level, you will still need to practice in order to learn new techniques in order to grow as a musician.

These are just a few of the simple tips that can help you learn how to play the guitar.
